BWMA is an award-winning contemporary architecture practice based in Aberdeen, founded by Scottish architect Blair Macintyre. Rooted in Scotland and shaped by extensive experience across the Nordics, our work combines the character of Scottish architecture with the simplicity and craftsmanship of Scandinavian design. This approach is informed by a deep understanding of American modernism and an appreciation for the precision of Japanese architecture.
We believe good architecture begins with understanding the client and the place. Working closely with our clients, we create contemporary architecture that responds to Scotland’s landscape and changing light, while Scandinavian principles bring warmth and clarity to the spaces within. As an RIAS and RIBA Chartered Practice, we uphold rigorous professional standards, with careful attention to proportion, light, materials and detail.
Materials are selected for their longevity and ability to age well. We favour natural and ecologically sensitive materials, reducing our reliance on heavily processed or chemical-based alternatives wherever possible. We believe exceptional architecture should feel as good as it looks, creating spaces where light, proportion and craftsmanship shape the experience of everyday life. Scottish in character.
